From the CEO's Desk
This past month has been particularly engaging and fruitful as I had the privilege of attending the Outdoor Health Forum in Tasmania. The insights gained there are steering our course towards healthier, more inclusive outdoor activities that resonate with our community's needs. The future of our industry is embodied in the health outcomes we provide, as the community needs rise.
In our ongoing commitment to enhance the professional landscape of the outdoor industry, I represented our interests at the Humanability Industry Reference Committee. Similarly, my participation in the Service & Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA) Industry Reference Committee meeting allowed us to review and refine the workforce plan concerning the tourism sector of our industry. It’s clear that our concerted efforts are paving the way for promising developments.
Amid these discussions on workforce development, I also took the opportunity to engage with the future of our industry, speaking at several schools about the myriad of opportunities the outdoors holds for career seekers. It’s inspiring to see the enthusiasm and curiosity among the students as we explore the potential paths in outdoor careers.
April also marked the delightful opening of the Forest Playground in Galston, a first for the eastern seaboard of Australia, and providing essential information for our members. Providing guidance on psychosocial hazards in the workplace was a key topic this month, ensuring that our members are equipped to offer safe and enriching experiences.
I’ve also had some enriching sessions with our members this month. I encourage those who haven't yet scheduled their annual strategy or support sessions to reach out. It’s your needs that help us shape our services and initiatives and everyone gets something different from their sessions with us.
Lastly, we have an array of exciting events lined up for you this year. Make sure to read more below for all the information you need.
Thank you for your continued involvement in the Outdoor Industry. Let’s make the most of the great outdoor industry together!

Strategic Partner
What happened in April?
Workforce issues were a feature of this month with presentations at schools about Outdoor Careers and participation in the two Jobs and Skills Council meetings for our industry. Humanability covers the sport and recreation sector, while Service & Creative Skills Australia covers the tourism sector. Both are working towards filling the gaps and ensuring we conquer our workforce issues by providing access to more skilled and suitable staff for our industry. As these organisations transition into their workforce plans, further updates will be provided to members. Supporting the Outdoor Health Forum in Tasmania was also important for Outdoors NSW & ACT as we helped some of the small businesses navigate the challenges of business today.
